Physical Therapy Continuing Education Focuses on your Career
Gustav on November 14, 2009 in Physical therapy continuing educationPhysical therapists know all about the need for focus. In the recovery process, patients need to focus on certain muscle groups in order to make them stronger. By strengthening the muscles, physical therapists help patients to avoid future problems and pain.
Physical therapy continuing education is also about focus…focus on learning. Learning about new techniques, changing legal issues, and updated administrative practices help physical therapists avoid future pain. A good CE program will ensure that you stay on top of your game.
What is a good physical therapy continuing education program? A good program should have three key components: convenience, adequate subject material, and unique knowledge.
The first thing you must look for in a CE course is convenience. You don’t want to spend hours traveling to and from your classes. Find a course that is offered near your home or office so that you can minimize time away. Better yet, find an online course that will allow you to study at your own pace and in the privacy of your own home or office. Make sure to require discipline from yourself, however, or you may end up severely behind schedule.

The next thing you need to look for is adequate subject material. Check with your local boards to ensure that the course you take meets the requirements for re-licensing or certification. Find courses that meet the minimum standards and are clearly accepted by your local governing agency.
Lastly, see if you can find a CE course that offers new, unique knowledge. You are seeking to gain information that will help your practice, and it’s always nice to think outside the box. If the information seems too extreme, try implementing it in pieces to see what sticks. You’ll be surprised at how much new innovation can help your practice.
It’s time to focus and prepare for the future. Don’t let your lack of knowledge deter you from running a successful practice. Physical therapy continuing education is just what the doctor ordered.
